After winning Twitter, Elon Musk is considering launching his own social network

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is “seriously thinking” about creating a new social media platform, the billionaire said in a tweet on Saturday.

Musk was answering a Twitter user’s question about whether he would consider creating a social media platform with an open source algorithm that would prioritize freedom of speech and where publicity was low.

Musk, himself a well-known Twitter user, has criticized the social media platform and its policies of late. He says the organization is undermining democracy by failing to adhere to the principles of freedom of speech.

His tweet comes a day after he conducted a Twitter poll when he asked users if they believed Twitter adhered to the principle of freedom of speech, with more than 70 percent voting “no”.

“The outcome of this vote will be important. Please vote carefully,” he said on Friday.

If Musk decides to move forward with creating a new platform, he will join a growing portfolio of technology companies that are positioning themselves as champions of freedom of speech and will attract users who like to suppress their views on platforms like Twitter and Meta. The platform is owned by Facebook and Alphabet is owned by Google’s YouTube.

None of the organizations, including Donald Trump’s Truth Social, Twitter contestant Gator and Parlor and video site Rumble, have yet matched the reach and popularity of mainstream platforms.
