Amazon on Thursday announced a drone to record safety video inside homes and car products to warn car owners about attempts to break-in.
The news reflects Amazon’s growing security business since the acquisition of the smart doorbell manufacturer’s ring in 2018, an effort that has been verified by civil liberties advocates. It also represents Amazon’s latest push to shoppers’ homes, which evolved from package delivery a few years ago to gadgets that allow customers to turn off lights or stream media via voice commands.
Amazon’s indoor drone, the $ 249 (approximately 18 18,300) Ring Always Home Cam will be available next year, where customers can capture videos that would otherwise otherwise lack static cameras. Daniel Rausch, vice president of Amazon, said it could show users videos where an alarm went off.
“Being able to get a view inside your home is extremely reassuring,” he said in an interview. The device only records flight time, Ring said.
The company has also announced a car safety device, the $ 60 (about Rs 4,400) ring car alarm, which sounds like an alarm when brake-in or bump detection is detected. It also unveiled a car security camera and Ring Car Connect software that works with other car cameras for video playback and alerting. Tesla is the first automaker whose models are compatible Amazon has also launched a similar security-centric car dash cam, the $ 200 (approximately Rs. 14,700) ring car cam.

The ring devices have received criticism from civil liberties advocates, such as the San Francisco-based Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), which said the company should end its partnership with the police.
“Amazon and other companies offer a high-speed digital system that allows people around them to snap judgments about who does and who doesn’t, and to call the police to deal with them,” EFF staff wrote in a June blog post.
Ring president Leila Ruhi said in an interview that the company would never actively share videos with law enforcement agencies; Controls what users will share. The purpose of the ring is to give peace of mind, he said.
Amazon has also announced a cloud-based gaming service called Luna, which features round echo speakers and its voice assistant Alexa, as well as the ability to delete all previous recordings. Various subscriptions help Amazon monetize products.
The new devices come at a time when Amazon is working to maintain a U.S. market share of smart speakers compared to rivals Apple and Alphabet’s Google.
