Elon Musk joins Twitter board; Company and what it means for

Tesla CEO Elon Musk now owns nine percent of Twitter and a seat on its corporate board of directors, raising questions about how billionaire business magnet could reshape the social media platform.

He now has the ears of Twitter’s largest shareholder and top managers.

What is the history of the mask with Twitter?

In fact he does. Musk’s 80.5 million Twitter followers make him one of the platform’s most popular personalities, competing with pop stars such as Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga. But his extensive tweets sometimes get him into trouble when, for example, he uses it to promote his business venture, to rally Tesla loyalists, to question the epidemic, and to pick up fights with those with whom he disagrees.

In a famous example, Musk apologized to a British cave explorer who complained that the CEO of Tesla had branded him a pedophile by angrily referring to him as “Pedo Guy” – and later deleted the tweet. The plaintiff filed a defamation suit, although the Los Angeles jury later cleared the mask.

He has been embroiled in a long-running dispute with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) over his Twitter activity. In 2018, Musk and Tesla agreed to pay 40 million in civil fines, and Musk tweeted about keeping his tweets at $ 420 per share to take Tesla private to be approved by corporate lawyers – which did not happen, but his lawyer claimed that the price jump was due to Tesla stock. The SEC is violating Mask’s right to freedom of speech.

What are you planning to do on Twitter?

Musk described himself as “free speech free” and made it clear that he did not think Twitter adhered to the “freedom of speech” principle – an opinion shared by followers of Donald Trump and a number of right-wing political figures who accepted his views. The account has been suspended for violating the Twitter content rules.

But it is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. His engagements with the service include arguing for the publicity of Twitter’s algorithm, widening the availability of “verified” Twitter accounts, and exploding a profile photo initiative involving non-fungible tokens or NFTs.

Musk also called the “crypto spam bot”, which searches for tweets for cryptocurrency-related keywords and then pretends to be customer support in empty-user crypto wallets, “the most annoying problem on Twitter.”

“We don’t know what her goals are,” said Jennifer Grigiel, a professor of communications at Syracuse University and an expert on social media. “Maybe Elon Musk secretly wants to blow up (Twitter) … maybe he wants to destroy it.”

What can a mask actually do as a board member?

Musk’s role as a board member and Twitter’s largest shareholder must have given him a big voice in the company’s future. He has been publicly praised by CEOs and other board members this week, a sign that the Twitter leadership will probably take his ideas seriously.

But he is still a member of the 12-person board that Twitter calls “an important advisory and feedback role” but has no responsibility for day-to-day activities and decisions.

That means Mask will not have the ability to add “edit buttons” or recover Donald Trump’s suspended accounts.

“Our policy decisions are not determined by the board or shareholders and we have no plans to reverse any policy decisions,” said Adrian Zamora, a spokesman for Twitter.

What do shareholders think?

Several Wall Street analysts say they have been inspired by Mask’s new role on Twitter. “It simply came to our notice then. For them, you need a perfect man on the board, “said Angelo Gino, a CFRA research analyst.” It’s true, Gino says, “who knows exactly what his ideas are.”

Other investors are not so sure. Meredith Benton, founder of investment consulting firm Whistle Stop Capital, is urging shareholders of both Twitter and Tesla to support strong policies that address harassment and discrimination in the workplace. He described Musk’s new role as a development for Twitter investors, particularly those accused by California regulators of discriminating against black workers at its San Francisco Bay Area plant.

“Twitter’s biggest current challenge is to successfully navigate through the social impact of using its platform,” Benton said. “Elon Musk, with his reckless courage, presents the risk of undermining the thoughtful and strategic management of these issues.”

Where is Twitter as a company?

Since the departure of co-founder Jack Dorsey in November, a new CEO, Parag Agarwal, has left Twitter for an executive turnover, the initial steps of which have involved department restructuring.

Wall Street analysts approved Agarwal’s choice as the new leader, but there has been no major change in the platform. The company has long lagged behind its social media competitors and boasts far fewer users.

The mere fact that Mask’s high-profile name is linked on Twitter can help people spend more time on the platform and make more money, Gino said, calling Mask “the most important person” on Twitter.

Musk is not a very busy person?

You may not know it from his extensive posts, but he played several major roles, including the CEO of the electric car company Tesla and the CEO of “Technoking” and the rocket company SpaceX.

He is the founder of The Boring Company, an underground tunnel company and Neurallink, which seeks to place computer chips in the human brain.
