I am a self-professed nerd. And like any self-respecting nest, I love lasers. Lightsabers, Captain Kirk’s phaser, and of course, Tron’s light cycle, what do you not like about them? But while all of these examples are incredibly great, looking at the future of used lasers, I didn’t realize that the great implementation I’d see would be the Dyson V15 Detector ($ 749.99) vacuum cleaner laser.

You see, unless you buy a really clean Jane aka Mary Condo Lifestyle, it’s hard to imagine that you enjoy vacuuming. Due to laziness early in the epidemic I bought myself a Mi Robot Vacuum Mop-P robot cleaner. It does a decent job, but it can’t handle the rags or it can’t reach the whole corner of the room. Arrogantly, I still have to pull the void every few days. That horrible feeling of fear at the thought of cleaning my apartment, however, has turned into excitement since I discovered the Dyson V15 a few weeks ago.
Dyson has been at the forefront of cordless vacuum games, both in terms of features and nose-bleed price points, for several years, and I knew what to expect from the cleaning experience. What I didn’t expect was how much of a difference a deceptive laser could make.

Dyson’s latest vacuum vessel with a special cleaning head called Laser Slim Fluffy. Tultule (seriously, Dyson?) Is a standard brush attachment that is stuck in a corner with a laser. NERD Warning: I like to call it Pathfinder after the first rover operation on Mars.
The laser head attachment makes its functionality incredibly simple, but it instantly transforms into a game. Turn off the lights, bump up the techno music and the green laser shows you exactly what and where you need to clean.
The Dyson V15 Pro turns a work into a rev and makes vacuuming much more fun.
The technology here is deceptively simple. A laser diode placed near the base emits light. The green spread of light, directly outside the Tumorland or Blue Wester cult concert, illuminates any hair, dirt, or dust that hits its path. Follow the dirt and shine a tail on the clean floor behind you. Simple
I don’t get much natural light in my apartment, and the general environment tends to be dark which goes a long way towards hiding dust. Dyson V15 detector is amazingly effective for showing me dust in places that I thought were clean.
Actual vacuuming is just like any other Dyson cordless vacuum. That being said, it works. You can cycle between different power modes, but I found the automatic mode to be quite adequate. Dyson has added a piezo sensor to the vacuum that allows it to dynamically adjust the suction power based on the level of cleanliness required.

That acoustic piezo sensor is a gorgeous nifty extra that adds another great feature to the vacuum. Like the air purifier, the sensor is capable of measuring the size of dust particles – up to 15,000 per second. A screen placed behind the vacuum displays an increasing number of dust particles based on the particle size.
It’s hard to resist the urge to go pew-pew every time you fire a Dyson V15 detector.
I think Dyson did the job of vacuuming himself much less than gamifying. I find myself chasing a dusty rabbit with a laser vacuum, pointing out the dust collected on each cleaning session on a personal leaderboard. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have a log, or sync this data with the Dyson app (Play Store).

See, there’s not much new that can be added to vacuuming as a category. This is a problem that has been effectively solved. Sure, great and powerful suction motors with a long battery life are convenient, and the Dyson V15 has them. But more importantly, it solves a problem I didn’t know I had. Laser attachment magnifies dust and dirt, makes vacuuming more efficient and A lot More fun it also feels like the final step in the whole video game prop aesthetic that Dyson is going for and I’m all for it.
The Dyson V15 Detect video game leans towards the aesthetics of the laser gun, but the additions make sense.
Does anyone need a vacuum cleaner that costs $ 749? Not really. There are many more Chinese brand options that can get you more performance for much less money. In fact, you can even buy older Dyson models at lower prices. But, if you, like me, can’t resist the urge to go pew-pew every time with a cartoon weapon, the Dyson V15 Detector ($ 749.99) itches and does a great job of cleaning your apartment. .
