TL; DR
- A rumor suggests that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 camera may be much better than last year’s model.
- In particular, telephoto and selfie cameras can be borrowed from the Galaxy S22 series.
- The Just-OK camera system was a major sticking point in the Galaxy Z Fold 3, so that’s good news.
However, even with that high cost, there was nothing to write home about the Galaxy Z fold line camera systems. That may change this year, though a new rumor suggests that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 cameras could be a bigger step than last year’s model.
Okay, we usually expect camera upgrades year after year with smartphones, so this rumor is pretty easy to believe. The exciting side of the rumor though is that the cameras can be borrowed from the Galaxy S22 series. Those phones have earned us a bright spot for photography.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 Camera Upgrade?
Rumors – arising from Galaxy Club – Suggests two significant upgrades to the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The first will be a telephoto lens. It can be 10MP telephoto on Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus, and Galaxy S22 Ultra. This means that the foldable will have 3x optical zoom, a nice step above the 2x zoom in Z Fold 3.
Telephoto and external selfie cameras can see some sweet upgrades.
Elsewhere, one of the selfie cameras (possibly an external one) may have a 10MP lens on the front of three Galaxy S22 devices. This is a great sensor that we are happy with all three Galaxy S22 devices.
It’s not clear if the other three camera sensors – external wide and ultraviolet and internal selfie cams – will see any upgrades.
We expect the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 to launch in late summer, probably in August. Stay tuned because there may be more rumors on the way soon.
