  • Samsung is reportedly stuck in side-mounted fingerprint scanners for its 2022 foldables.
  • The company thought of adding an in-display fingerprint sensor to its upcoming foldables.

Samsung has long stuck to side-mounted fingerprint scanners for its foldable phones, and the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3 have also adopted such fingerprint scanners. Now, news from outside Korea suggests that 2022 foldables will also be stuck in this position.

Business Korea Samsung is reportedly considering adding an in-display fingerprint sensor to the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4. However, the manufacturer recently decided not to use this technology in newer devices and will use side-mounted fingerprint scanners instead.

These would not be the first foldable with an in-display fingerprint sensor, as the upcoming Vivo X Fold will have an in-display scanner on both the smartphone and the foldable screen.

Still, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner still carries a lot of money on a foldable phone. This option allows users to easily unlock their phone both on and off, requiring only a fingerprint scanner in the first place.

We still have a long way to go before we reach the traditional Q3 launch window for Samsung’s foldable. But we will definitely see more Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4 leaks before that.
