YouTube seems to be planning to take on podcast space industry giants like Apple and Spotify. An 84-page document was allegedly leaked that outlined a roadmap set by the company. The document is intended for podcast publishers. According to the leaked document, YouTube is believed to be planning to improve podcast engagement on its platform. A new podcast homepage with a familiar YouTube layout is expected
The report comes from PodNews, which claims to have a hand in the 84-page presentation produced by YouTube. It does not share the entire presentation but focuses on a section labeled ‘Looking First’. The report suggests that YouTube will find a dedicated ‘podcast’ homepage on youtube.com/podcasts (URLs not currently working) for advanced search and discovery. The online video sharing platform is said to be developing simple and easy ways to upload podcasts to its site. YouTube is also said to be planning to bring audio ads sold by both Google and other partners to its listeners to listen to music, podcasts and other audio content.
YouTube is said to be updating its analytics by integrating new data metrics designed for audio-first creators. The move is aimed at seamlessly integrating its data with industry-standard podcast measurement platforms such as Nielsen, Podtrack and Chartable.
Spotify is reportedly creating a new ‘audio newsfeed’ for easy discovery of podcasts in its app. An alleged video of the new vertical feed has also been released which displays a dedicated ‘podcast’ button in the app. The feed has a TikTok-style vertical layout created by the creators’ podcast clips that listeners can enjoy. Spotify Podz is believed to be using advanced technology to automatically select podcast clips, which it achieved last year.
